The Toyota Prius is back in the UK, an all-new plug-in hybrid electric model returning the famous nameplate to the market this spring.
As might be expected of a car that has a distinguished history of pushing the boundaries of electrified performance, the latest, third generation Prius Plug-in delivers even greater fuel economy, emissions efficiency and EV driving capability, matched to sharp, coupe-like styling.
The initial range offers two versions – Design and Excel – powered by a 2.0-litre plug-in system benefiting from fifth generation Toyota hybrid electric technology. The powertrain delivers a maximum 220bhp (223 DIN hp/164kW), a significant increase on the 121bhp (122 DIN hp/90kW) of the previous Prius plug-in model that ensures strong, responsive acceleration.
The launch line-up for Pruis Plug-in comprises two versions: Design (OTR price £37,315) and Excel (£39,955). Order books open on 4 March and deliveries begin in July.
Up to 53.4 miles EV driving range from the car’s 13.6kWh lithium-ion battery allows fully electric driving on most daily journeys. For longer trips, or when charging is not practical, the plug-in hybrid system has enhanced output and a combined WLTP CO2 emissions rating of 12g/km – the lowest yet for a Prius.
