Visitors attending the special Brooklands Grand Prix Centenary Celebration on Saturday 8 August will not only experience the sights and sounds of 100 Grand Prix cars spanning more than 120 years of competition, but will also be among the first to explore a major new season-long exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of Britain’s very first Grand Prix, staged at Brooklands in 1926.
Housed within the venue’s historic Jackson Shed, newly refreshed for the occasion, the Britain’s Grand Prix Story exhibition will take visitors on a journey through a century of Grand Prix racing.
From the pioneering drivers and machines of the 1920s to the cutting-edge world of modern Formula 1, the exhibition showcases the evolution of the sport through a remarkable collection of artefacts, hands-on interactive displays and iconic racing cars from across the decades.
The Jackson Shed itself is steeped in motorsport history. Built in 1931 by Robin Jackson, one of the leading engineers and tuners of his era, it became famous as the ‘Robinary’, where drivers could have their competition cars serviced and race-prepared on site by a highly skilled team of engineers.
Complementing the not-to-be-missed exhibition is the all-new Brooklands Simulator Experience, giving visitors the opportunity to race around the legendary Brooklands circuit – the world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit of its kind.
Britain’s Grand Prix Story opens to the public on Saturday 27 June and forms the centrepiece of Brooklands Museum’s Summer of Speed celebrations, which will run throughout the summer holidays with events, experiences and activities including a brand new interactive Get Set Go! science show packed with demonstrations, experiments and audience participation.
