Nissan underlined its commitment to lead in crossovers and electric vehicles following the start of extension work for a new extra-large press line at its manufacturing plant in Sunderland.
This £37m investment will see the plant extended and a new 5,200 tonne press installed, supporting ongoing UK production of Nissan’s best-selling Qashqai and Juke crossovers, the Nissan Note and the all-electric Nissan LEAF as well as new models scheduled for 2017.
PSA/Peugeot-Citroen has created a business unit to boost sales of electric cars.
The automaker plans to launch a new generation of EVs based on its EMP1 small-car platform in 2020 and Citroen CEO Linda Jackson said PSA has established a business unit to develop an EV strategy for the automaker’s Peugeot, Citroen and DS brands.
Safety regulators have “tentatively concluded” that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles did not adequately remedy safety defects in a timely manner, notify car owners of recalls or keep federal officials informed about ongoing issues, according to an official document seen by Reuters.
The document, an official draft of a notice to be published in the Federal Register, contains the most strongly worded language to date by regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and expands from 20 to 22 the number of recalls that NHTSA intends to scrutinize at a public hearing on 2 July.
