The Freight Transport Association Manifesto for Wales has been published ahead of next month’s Assembly election.
It highlights key issues seen affecting the freight and logistics industry and outlines how the next Government can work with the sector to deliver a stronger economy, improved safety and a cleaner environment.
Issues covered by the Manifesto include:
- The importance to Welsh business, especially in the south, of reducing or removing the Severn Crossing tolls which act as a tax on Welsh firms winning business in England.
- Improving key road trade routes such as the M4 and A55
- Improving rail infrastructure to allow more use of rail freight
- Increasing the amount of alternative fuel infrastructure for HGVs and vans
- Addressing the skills shortage in the logistics industry
Commenting on the manifesto, FTA Head of Policy for Wales Ian Gallagher said, “Logistics is vitally important to Wales as an economy and a place to live. Wales needs 250,000 tonnes of freight moved every day by lorries to keep functioning.
“By engaging with us as an industry, the next Government can continue the work of reducing accidents, improving the environment and helping the Welsh economy grow, while keeping the cost of living down.”
