An Volkswagen ID Buzz has been converted into a fully functioning electric campervan for the first time – and it even has a pop up roof to create extra space.
TC Conversions have adapted the vehicle to create the first fully developed camper on this platform. The company believes the camper will be a ‘gateway vehicle’ as people switch to electric camper-vanning.
The conversion company based in Newton Abbot specialise in converting vehicles such as everyday work vans to beautiful campers for leisure use. They pride themselves on providing professional and high quality camper van conversions to all makes and models.
Their latest project involved a Volkswagen ID Buzz. After the conversion work, the vehicle boasts over 210 miles of usable range alongside all the usual features you would expect to find in a modern campervan. These features include four berth sleeping, an elevated pop top roof, rock n roll bed, fridge and running water as well as off grid electrics.
Some of its unique additions include integrated blinds, an induction hob, which does not require gas, and a sink. The appliances can be used both inside and outside of the vehicle and are able to be lowered for ease if needed.
All of the appliances run using electricity from the vehicle or from a power pack on board. A solar panel has also been placed on the elevated roof which will help to charge the power pack while off grid. Main hook up capabilities are also available to recharge the battery.
Speaking of the new creation, managing director at TC Conversions, Derek Thomas, said: “Due to the heritage of the iconic VW camper vans of the past, we really believe that this ID Buzz campervan will be the gateway vehicle for people switching to electric campervanning.”
Derek believes the vehicle is the first of its kind on a proper campervan layout. He added: “So we are one of the first to get our hands on this vehicle and we have converted it into a full on campervan.
“The camper sleeps four people – two on the bed, two on the roof bunk. It could even fit five people if you have a toddler, as they could sleep on the front seat.
“We believe the pop top roof is the first that has actually been fitted to the Buzz so, all in all, it’s quite ground-breaking really.”
