After four consecutive months of pump price rises, the average cost of petrol on Britain’s forecourts has started to fall again, shows data from the RAC’s July Fuel Watch report.
While the reduction in the price of unleaded is only small – 0.41p from 112.20p to 111.79p – it reverses the rising price trend which began in March. The average price of diesel also fell, but even more slightly (0.06p) from 112.47p to 112.41p.
Research by used car specialists HPL Motors found that many people are getting distracted by technology whilst driving.
The Manchester-based company discovered one in five people admitted to using a non-hands-free mobile phone to take a call or text whilst driving and more than one in 10 people had listened to music through headphones when driving.

The German state of Bavaria said it will sue Volkswagen Group for damages caused by the emissions-test cheating scandal, the first regional government in VW’s home country to take legal action against the automaker.
Bavaria’s state pension fund for civil servants lost as much as 700,000 euros ($783,580) after VW shares plunged in the wake of the Sept. 18 announcement by U.S. regulators that VW had rigged diesel engines to lower NOx pollution.
The Italian and Spanish passenger car markets recorded weaker gains during July than those seen in earlier months.
This has predominantly been caused by their being only 21 working days versus 23 in July 2015 which meant the growth in the Italian and Spanish passenger car markets has slowed in July, with the former growing by 2.9% y/y while the latter is up by 4.3% y/y.
