The automotive industry has been rocked by the sudden resignation of Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares after ‘different views’ emerged between him and the board.
The car maker – which runs Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen, Vauxhall, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and DS – said Tavares had stepped down with immediate effect on Sunday and an interim boss will head the massive business until the middle of 2025.
Tavares, 66, said in October he was going to retire from the global car firm in 2026 but falling sales and industrial disputes at plants either side of the Atlantic, have brought about the move.
Media reports suggest Tavares wanted quick fixes to address model, manufacturing and union issues, but the falling value of the business meant he ran out of time and now a more long term approach is expected to be taken which may also improve its cash flow and stem losses.
it is not know if his departure will affect the planned closure of Stellantis Vauxhall Plant, Luton, due in the Spring of 2025.
