Almost all dealers believe that there is a direct link between higher petrol prices and buyers' interest in electric cars. November’s new Startline Used Car Tracker shows that 52% say the correlation is “significant” while 47% believe there is “some” impact. Overall, 60% think consumers are attracted to electric cars by low refuelling costs, 37% say higher … [Read more...]
Motorists fleeced out of extra £1.6 Billion in 12 months
Filling stations have pocketed an extra £1.6 Billion from motorists through overcharging on fuel, according to the latest Competition and Markets Authority. Supermarkets and roadside filling stations have steadily increased their profit take per litre and it raises questions about a possible illegal cartel operating behind the scenes with rivals reluctant … [Read more...]
Motorists getting very poor pump deals
Drivers across the UK – with the exception of those in Northern Ireland – are continuing to get an extremely poor deal every time they fill up, new data from the RAC reveals. The RAC believes the average prices of both petrol and diesel are far higher than they should be in comparison to wholesale costs which have been falling since the end of April, and … [Read more...]

RAC calls for fuel price cut at pumps
The RAC is today urging the UK’s biggest fuel retailers to cut the price of petrol by at least 5p a litre to 150p to reflect their far lower wholesale costs. As it stands the Government’s 5p duty cut brought in shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year is not benefitting drivers struggling to cope with the cost-of-living crisis and, instead … [Read more...]
Supermarkets cashing in during crisis, says RAC
Following news that lower fuel prices helped reduce inflation last month new RAC analysis has revealed supermarket margins on petrol and diesel have more than doubled since Russia invaded Ukraine. Prior to the start of the war in Ukraine the big four supermarkets, which dominate UK fuel retailing, were making a margin of just under 5p (4.7p) a litre on fuel … [Read more...]
RAC urges Government to force fuel changes
The RAC is concerned that Government plans to monitor pump prices are little more than window dressing. Grant Shapps is meeting supermarket bosses today after a report found the big retailers were profiteering from higher prices and not timely cutting them when wholesale costs fell. The Government has suggested a price monitor but this already exists with … [Read more...]
Gov. will probe supermarkets’ fuel pricing
The Competition and Markets Authority will probe fuel prices and the role of Supermarkets in a study it began last year. While the evidence shows that the majority of fuel price increases are due to global factors, such as the Russian invasion of Ukraine, indications are that higher pump prices cannot be attributed solely to factors outside the control of … [Read more...]
