With the Welsh Sports and Saloon Car Championship marking 25 years of racing at Pembrey Circuit’s own 25th Anniversary meeting it was fitting that championship stalwart Keith White claimed a hat-trick of race wins, says Peter Hughes.
The Bristol racer and his BMW Z4 headed the bumper field home in each of the weekend’s three races with second place going on each occasion to the Ginetta G50 GT4 of former British Touring Car racer David Krayem, from Tetbury.
Vaughan Fletcher claimed the final podium place in the opening race of the weekend, the Chesterfield driver behind the wheel of a Subaru Impreza.
In race 2, third place went to the Sierra Cosworth of four times Welsh Champion Martin Davies of Haverfordwest while another Sierra, that of Andy Williams from Risca took the place in the final of the weekend.
Away from the Welsh Championship, the emphasis as far as the racing was concerned was on Classic Touring Cars with the Pre-83 events producing a win apiece for the Ford Escort of Stephen Primett and Mark Osbourne’s Triumph Dolomite Sprint.
In the Classic Thunder Saloons, Andy Robinson took his Australian V8 powered Ford Falcon to victory on Saturday while there was a win on Sunday for Vaughan Fletcher and his Impreza. BMW M3s dominated the pre-93 Touring Car races with a brace of wins for David Hickton. Meanwhile, the Historic Touring Car Championship produced a home win for Eifion Jones in his Lotus Cortina.
As well as some thrilling race action, a big crowd enjoyed demonstrations ranging from a World Series by Renault single seater to the 5.5. Tonne race truck of 2011 British Truck Racing Champion David Jenkins.
