Data for the 32 Welsh constituencies shows what ev drivers in Wales can expect to pay when the new Government toll charges come in next year.
A few headline figures for Wales:
-
Combined projected annual eVED bill across all 32 Welsh constituencies: £29.1m
-
Average per-driver annual cost across Wales: £228 (vs £79 in Cities of London and Westminster)
-
Average mean mileage across Welsh constituencies: 7,607 miles per year
The Welsh constituencies with the highest total bills are Cardiff South and Penarth (£3.9m, UK #24), Newport East (£2.4m, UK #108) and Bridgend (£2.4m, UK #116).
But on a per-driver basis, the burden is actually highest in the more rural Welsh seats – Caerfyrddin (£245/driver), Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe (£241/driver) and Ynys Môn (£241/driver) – reflecting higher mileage in areas with limited public transport alternatives. This rural/urban split is the overarching story.
It also considers how well served the areas are with public transport, or lack of it in many instances.
