Circuit training by the UK’s leading road safety charity will be coming to two new venues this year – Knockhill Racing Circuit in Fife and Bicester Heritage Centre in Oxfordshire.
The events will be run by IAM RoadSmart, giving drivers and riders the opportunity to learn precision driving and riding techniques on a racing circuit, and to develop new skills that they can use when back on public roads.
More than 100 young people will benefit from funded places, thanks to the generosity of supporters during the Christmas ‘Big Give’ campaign. Upskilling young drivers and riders is a priority forthe charity, given that one in five drivers crashes within one year of passing their practical driving test. * Donations are still being taken for theYouth Empowerment Initiative to give even more youths the opportunity to become safer drivers.
This year, IAM RoadSmart will run 13 separate skills days, with car and motorcycle sessions over a six-month period between April and September. The sessions are open to full licence holders and are not exclusive to IAM RoadSmart members. They are an opportunity for both drivers and riders to develop their skills with qualified instructors in their own car or riding their own motorcycle.
IAM RoadSmart Regional Manager Shaun Cronin said, “We aim to create a safer road environment for everyone. The funded sessions offered in the Youth Empowerment Initiative offer unparalleled opportunities to enhance road safety skills, who are twice as likely to die in collisions.
“We would like to thank everyone who generously donated during the Christmas ‘Big Give’ campaign and look forward to seeing young people make the most of the circuit days, learning life-long skills.”
Skills days will also be held at Thruxton Circuit, Hampshire; Croft Circuit, Yorkshire; and Mallory Park Circuit, Leicestershire.
