Welsh Conservatives have created a website to oppose the 20mph speed limit and gauge public reaction to voting against Labour AMs as a result in the next Senedd elections.
The site calls time on the limit introduced in September 2023.
They claim the new limit is not working and should be scrapped amid a lot of confusion about its implementation, clashes in markings and posted limits.
The site also asks people to identify roads where they want the former 30mph limit reintroduced and want to know what effect the lower limit has had on them.
Natasha Asghar MS, Shadow Transport Minister, said, “After ignoring the pubic for so long, Labour continues to plough ahead with their war on motorists.
“Labour’s handling of their blanket 20mph speed limit rollout has been shambolic, with a groundswell of public opinion against the scheme and a record-breaking petition reaching more than 468,000 signatures further highlighting the public’s anger.
“That is why the Welsh Conservatives have launched a website for people to make their voices heard and to send a message to the Labour Government in Cardiff Bay that time’s up for 20.”
Opposition intensified this year after Welsh Government announced, following pressure and poor publicity with businesses and bus services saying it was seriously affecting them, that the scheme would be reviewed by the same independent consultant who had proposed it.
Further comments that this was the Welsh Government marking its own homework, two other consultants were hurriedly brought in to join the original professional.
Now the 20mph is likely to become a major voting issue at the Senedd elections next year, possibly along with plans for Cardiff to severely limit on-street parking and even begin congestion charging under the banner of establishing low emission zones, which has angered drivers coming into the Capital to work with a train and bus service unable to cope from the Valleys.
