Motorists fearful of being targeted in ‘Crash for cash’ scams, or simply being blamed for an accident which was not their fault, can now take advantage of a new connected car service.
The Smartdriverclub will allow motorists to provide their driving data to their insurer to help prove the circumstances of an accident when making a claim.
For just £6.60 per month, Smartdriverclub offers in-car connectivity in cars made in or after 2008 through a self-installed Smartplug that slots in behind the dashboard.
It offers a range of essential safety features like automatic emergency assistance, breakdown help that can see the driver’s location to find them faster, theft tracking that can assist Police recovery and a digital mechanic that can identify faults to help motorists avoid worsening the damage or even prevent a breakdown.
The driving data that is part and parcel of the benefits package means a motorist member could ask Smartdriverclub to provide data to their insurer to show they were forced to slam on the brakes in an attempt to avoid hitting another car in a contrived accident.
Or a driver whose car has been hit while parked can prove to their insurer that they were not driving at the time of the collision.
