More than 3,000 motorists in Wales aged 70+ have had their driving licence revoked or refused due to a medical condition over the last three years, according to FOI data obtained by Confused.com.
UK law requires drivers who reach the age of 70 to renew their licence every three years, with older drivers legally required to declare whether they are fit to drive.
However, 45% of Welsh drivers disagree with how the law currently stands and are calling for it to be changed – forcing drivers aged 70+ to retake their driving test as well as renewing their licence every three years.
Nearly one in five (18%) motorists in Wales admit that they are troubled at the behaviour of older drivers behind the wheel, and more than half (54%) of drivers in Wales aged 70+ believe that younger drivers are more reckless.
