New figures revealed UK car dealers’ 10 most in-demand models, with owners being advised they could get a better price if they sell as soon as possible.
Overall, the Volvo XC40 was identified as the country’s most sought after car by dealers. As high demand can often have a positive impact on a car’s value, this means owners have an opportunity to receive a better offer than usual if they act now.
The research, compiled by car-changing marketplace Carwow, reviewed internal figures to discover which models have received the most sales and bids per listing since the start of the year. It then combined these numbers to identify which cars were receiving the most interest from dealers. Overall, the Volvo XC40 was found to be the most coveted.
Carwow noted that many popular cars made the list, including the Vauxhall Corsa, the Nissan Juke, the Hyundai i10 and the Peugeot 208, meaning many owners could have a chance to get an improved price.
The figures also suggest that BMWs are currently in particularly high demand. Two models appear in the list, with the X3 and the X5 both ranking in the top five. Other especially coveted cars at the moment include the Audi Q5, the Kia Picanto and the Volkswagen Golf GTD.
On top of this, Carwow says that many of these models may be unused. As part of its latest survey, it found that 4% of UK adults own a car they don’t use, equal to approximately 1.4 million cars sitting idle on driveways or forgotten in garages across the UK.
Based on the number of models currently on the road, approximately 87,000 of the country’s most in-demand models aren’t being used. This includes over 2,000 Volvo XC40s, showing that thousands of owners have a chance to generate a significant cash sum without sacrificing a vehicle they rely on.
The study also estimates that roughly over 36,000 Vauxhall Corsas are unused, as well as almost 12,000 Nissan Jukes, and more than 9,000 Hyundai i10s.
John Rawlings, Consumer Editor at Carwow, said, “It’s surprising to see how even just a small percentage of owners having a car that they don’t drive can equate to such a high volume of vehicles across the UK simply sitting unused.
“Perhaps you’ve got a second family car that’s no longer needed or a teenager who’s moved to university and left their first car behind. But if you’ve got a vehicle parked on your drive that’s never used, consider getting it valued – it might be worth more than you think. Especially if it matches one of the current most in-demand makes by dealers.
“Remember that if your car has been sitting unused for a long period, you’ll want to give it a good service to ensure it’s running smoothly before you sell it. Rust can accumulate on brakes, and fluids may need changing. A good clean can also do wonders to prepare it for a sale.”
