A new study from Autotrader revealed which popular road trips around the world are most kind to canine travellers, based on how many dog-friendly pitstops can be made on the journey.
The new research from Autotrader, the UK’s largest automotive marketplace, reveals that three routes in the UK have made the top ten most dog-friendly driving routes in the world; Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coastal Route ranks fourth, the Cotswolds Way (A44) is fifth and the Pembrokeshire Coast Road in Wales takes seventh position.
In its Canine Car Report, Autotrader partners with Adam Spivey, Director and Master Trainer at Southend Dog Training, who recommends that when driving with older dogs, owners should schedule in a break every couple of hours, while puppies need one closer to once an hour to avoid accidents.
And so, with summer road-trips in full swing, Autotrader set out to find which road trips offer the most comfortable ride for their four-legged friends, based on the frequency of available dog-friendly pitstops.
To find the routes with the most options for a canine passenger to stretch their legs, Autotrader uses Google Map data to record how many service stations, outdoor areas and dog parks are along popular road-trip routes that are 100 miles long or more, and how many dog stops are available on average per five miles.
