Superheroes will be out in force today as pupils, parents and teachers celebrate success in this year’s Big Pedal.
To date, a total of 32,355 journeys have been made by bike and scooter for the school run in Wales in just six days and pupils are now getting ready to celebrate this achievement on Superhero Day.
The national challenge that encourages pupils to jump on their bikes and scooters has proved to be hugely successful, inspiring thousands of Welsh families to make a healthy change and up their physical activity levels in a fun way.
Sustrans National Director, Jane Lorimer, said, ‘‘The enthusiasm around this year’s Big Pedal in Wales has been tremendous.
“So many pupils, teachers and parents are taking part and making a healthy change to their lifestyle. The average primary school journey is just 1.6 miles from home which is an ideal distance to cycle, scoot or walk’’.
Superhero Day can be celebrated in many ways: superhero fancy dress with a £1 donation to Sustrans, ‘bling your bike’ decoration or simply with Big Pedal superhero wheelie transfers and other goodies available on the online Sustrans shop.
