Overnight motorway closures are planned across the UK from this weekend and threaten holiday plans of motorists, according to Select Car Leasing.
The works on nearly all motorways are being carried out before the traditional Easter rush, but their night-time plans may hit families who like to travel when the roads are normally quieter but who will face unexpected detours.
“Over Easter, there are roadworks that have the potential to shut all lanes of major motorways, necessitating what’s often a nightmarish – and wholly unexpected – detour.
“Be wise to the risk, particularly if you’re travelling with young children and pets, and check the Traffic England list of planned roadwork long before you set off.”
The RAC says an estimated 21 million journeys will be undertaken over the Bank Holiday weekend next week but millions more will be on the roads before and after as the school holidays begin for some this weekend and others will stretch into the middle of April.
Information to date suggest overnight works on the Traffic England network will be done on the M1, M3, M4, M5 & 6 as well as around sections of the M25 and M20.
In South Wales, sections of the M4 and junctions will be periodically closed as well leading to detours and added time on journeys and the updates can be seen on the Traffic Wales website.
