An Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation is being held into the death of a driver whose car was stopped by South Wales Police on the M4 north of Cardiff on Saturday evening.
Police were concerned about the driving of the red Ford Focus and deployed a tyre-piercing stinger on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 32 and 30 and after the suspicious car went over the stinger it collided with another vehicle, slightly injuring its driver, but the Focus driver from Gloucestershire was killed and the motorway was closed for several hours causing long tailbacks and delays.
A Welsh transport expert has warned that budget cuts which have led to the delay, redesign and smaller Cardiff bus station mean it could fail as major hub.
Prof Stuart Cole, of University of South Wales, says the hub must be big enough to meet demand and seamlessly integrate with rail services and he has been backed by other transport and logistics bodies.
