Wales’ 14 Welsh Government Ministers used official cars for nearly 2,000 trips in 12 months.
An answer to a written question by the Welsh Conservatives showed that the Labour Government has used ministerial cars 1,979 times from May 2022 to April 2023.
The most travelled in official cars was the Minister for Social Justice and Chief Whip, Jane Hutt, at 270,and the fewest car journeys were made by the Deputy Minister for Climate Change, Lee Waters, 43. First Minister, Mark Drakeford, used official cars on 247 journeys in the same period.
Commenting on the written response, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies MS said, “Labour ministers in the Senedd frequently preach to the rest of us about a climate emergency.
“The Welsh people may well consider Labour’s use of ministerial cars to be somewhat hypocritical, given they’ve forced extreme policies on the rest of us like a barmy road building ban and blanket 20mph speed limits.”
