Xpeng is the next Chinese brand coming to the UK early next year, it was announced.
The G6 SUV will lead the importation of a range which will be handled by the very experienced IM Group, which have enormous experience over almost 50 years with Subaru & Isuzu and recently added GWM of China to its portfolio while handling the parts operations for Mitsubishi models after they withdrew new car sales in the UK in Autumn 2021.
The mid-sized G6 (above and below) is available in China with rear wheel drive using a single 190kw motor or 350kw twin motors giving four-wheel-drive, standard heat-pump for comfort and range extension, a sophisticated 980W 18 speaker sound system and completely flat-folding front seats and recline adjustable rear seats.
It is likely to be followed by selected cars from its range of six designs covering family MPVs to executive level, mostly with pure battery power using a highly advanced motor and battery pack and possibly, but still not confirmed, a petrol hybrid with combined range of close to 900 miles.
Although built in China, the Xpeng models have styling input from offices in Callifornia and the cars will be imported through Sheerness in North East Kent, which processes about 400,000 cars annually.
Next year, the importers are expected to say whether the cars will be sold directly or through an agency model or probably a few selected traditional dealers and they will then outline their price range and expect it to be highly competitive.
