The Welsh Automotive sector is concerned about the continuing effects and fall-out of the current trade tariffs implementation.
In the latest newsletter of the Welsh Automotive Forum it discusses how the local industry is shaping responses to US Tariffs.
Member companies rcently engaged in a roundtable discussions on the impact of US tariffs on the Welsh and UK automotive manufacturing sector.
Afterwards, the WAF newsletter told members, “Your input has been instrumental in capturing the immediate and longer-term concerns facing the industry, and we are incredibly grateful for the time, honesty, and expertise shared by all participants.
“The feedback we gathered has now been collated into a comprehensive summary, reflecting the pressures being felt across the supply chain — from declining orders and paused exports, to rising operational costs, investment delays, and a critical lack of targeted support for manufacturers.
“The discussions also highlighted the strategic risks of global supply chain disruption, the challenges of maintaining competitiveness in an increasingly subsidised global market, and the urgent need for clearer, faster, and more coordinated government assistance.”
A summary has been prepared and is now being shared across all relevant departments within Welsh Government — from ministers through to policy teams — and with UK Government via the Department for Business and Trade.
“Our aim is to ensure that your voice, as the Welsh automotive industry, is heard clearly and represented consistently in all relevant policy and trade discussions.
“Looking ahead, Mike Evans, Chairman of the Welsh Automotive Forum, will be meeting with the Secretary of State for Wales before the end of April to present these findings directly. We are also participating in the Tariff Impact Review Group, chaired by the Welsh Minister for Economy, Rebecca Evans MS, where we continue to advocate on your behalf to ensure that future decisions reflect the reality facing our industry.”
