True cost of running EV is tabled

As rumours build that the Chancellor is planning a rise in fuel duty this March Budget, cap hpi shares the running costs for a new breed of Electric Vehicles. 

The data reveals the Citroen C Zero Hatchback has the lowest Total Cost of Ownership of the EVs on offer, starting at £13,994 for the first 3 years from new.

It also has the lowest monthly running costs, starting from £388.72, but it claims one of the highest service and maintenance costs at £998.

The mechanically identical Peugeot ION Hatchback comes a close second, with a TCO of less than £15,000 and costing £14,023 from new, along with comparable monthly running and service and maintenance costs to the Citroen C Zero.

The Ford Focus Hatchback offers the greatest savings when looking at service and maintenance alone, starting from just £352 – that’s less than £10 a month. The Kia Soul Hatchback comes in just behind, at £377, but buyers need to be aware that the Kia has the highest monthly running costs of those featured in the cap Top 10 EV Total Cost of Ownership table,  starting at £613.67.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Tesla doesn’t have a model that features in the cap Top 10 EV Total Cost of Ownership table, but motorists looking for a prestige EV can still score themselves a bargain. The BMW i3 Hatch back and the Mercedes-Benz B Class Hatchback take sixth and seventh place, respectively.
