A new bridge over the Menai Straits and improvements along the North Wales coast road between Holyhead and Chester have been outlined by the Welsh Government.
Transport Minister Mrs Edwina Hart has instructed detailed plans be drawn up for schemes to speed up travel, reduce congestion and improve the North East Wales road network, particularly to enterprise areas and the airfield at Llanbedr.
Pinch-points will be bypassed or improved on roads and extensive plans to develop existing and new rail links will be studied, including electrification of some services, with developments to connect with Cross Pennine rail services.
Some of the schemes will form part of the next trans-European road improvements and attract EU aid to assist with their creation. Bus routes and ticketting will be improved as well as more cycling routes created.
More detailed announcements will included in the Welsh Government’s transport plan for the whole of Wales which is shortly expected to be published.
