With 650,000 students receiving their GCSE results today, the motor dealers are highlighting the wide range of career opportunities available within automotive retail as young people consider their next steps.
Apprenticeships in automotive retail combine practical, hands-on experience with recognised qualifications and a salary. The wider industry is already investing in new talent, with apprenticeship numbers rising by 33% in 2025 and 1,699 new apprentices starting during the last academic year.
Competition for degree apprenticeships in England has quadrupled over the past three years, while the Government has set out ambitions to deliver 50,000 more youth apprenticeships.
Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of the NFDA, said, “GCSE results are an important milestone. For those who prefer a more practical approach to learning, apprenticeships in areas like marketing, sales or customer service offer valuable experience while developing the skills needed for a career.
“Automotive retail offers so many different career paths and we want young people to recognise the opportunities available to them.”
Through its Drive My Career initiative, the NFDA promotes careers in automotive retail and helps young people discover the variety of roles and opportunities available across the industry.
