A stark warning has been made regarding action from Extinction Rebellion against car dealers, car manufacturers and car firms in Bristol and London.
“The warning makes sober reading. Action will likely be against 4×4 and luxury car dealers and manufacturers, and while we expect it to be a non-physical social media campaign, dealers need to reinforce their security pronto”, explained Patrick Jones from security installer CCTV.co.uk
Using hashtags #notgoingback #anotherworldispossible #closedforgood and #allforclimate – the action comes after lockdown has shown a marked reduction in car usage and the demonstrated the positive knock-on effects of lower emissions.
The worrying threat comes as car dealers and manufacturers are facing severe trading conditions during the Covid-19 lockdown, as car use has plummeted.
“We recommend all dealers of 4×4 and luxury vehicles either store vehicles off-site or employ manned guarding throughout the lockdown period to protect their stock”, added Mr Jones.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has seen a leaked document issuing the threat, with London and Bristol being named as targets. It is unclear what the threat involves, but at a low level will simply be campaigning outside car dealers. The worry is that expensive vehicles may get damaged.
Although only London and Bristol were named specifically, it is thought that other luxury car brands may be targeted Nationwide, although no detail of this was released.
