MoneySuperMarket’s research analysed car makes and models to reveal which models are driven by those with the highest number of no claims’ years.
Though the make and model of vehicle can influence the cost of car insurance, the insurance experts’ data reveals which cars are favored by the most experienced and claim-free drivers.
Typical No-Claims Streak for Drivers, Sorted by Car Model
All of the cars in the top 25 list are SUV or Crossover models, which are models often favored by more experienced drivers in general due to their larger size, comfort and practicality. As a result, many of these drivers will have been on the road for years longer than their younger counterparts, who often favor smaller vehicles such as hatchbacks, allowing them to build up their no-claims streaks as a result of their driving tenure, and greater experience on the roads.
According to MoneySuperMarket’s new research, drivers called Melvyn have, on average, the highest number of years of No Claims Bonus (NCB) for men, at an average of 14 years and 2 months.
Melvyn was particularly popular from the 1930s to 1960s, so many people who share this moniker will likely have significant driving experience that may help them avoid making an insurance claim
Meanwhile, for women, Norma is the name that carries the highest number of years with no claims on average, at 14 years and 2 months.
Said to be derived from the Latin for ‘rule’ or ‘standard’, with the highest average years of NCB for any female name, clearly those sharing this name may be adept at following the rules of the road.
