Former British GT Champion Seb Morris, from near Wrexham, delivered an impressive showing on his racing return at Donington Park over the weekend with an excellent podium finish just reward for a sparkling debut in the GT Cup Championship.
Even though having been away from competitive track action for 10 months, and with the fresh challenge of a new car – the Mercedes-AMG GT4 – a new team environment with RAM Racing and a new team-mate in Charles Dawson, Marford driver Morris took no time at all to showcase his renowned speed.
Newcomer Dawson started off the weekend with fourth place in the GTH class in the round one Sprint Race on Saturday at the Leicestershire track, before he and Morris combined to secure an excellent and very well deserved second position in the round two Feature Race later in the day.
On Sunday, Dawson made it two podiums from two with another fantastic drive in the round three Sprint Race – finishing just 0.7 seconds shy of victory and posting the fastest GTH lap with a time of 1m10.169 seconds (101.53mph). In round four, Morris and Dawson were sixth.
Seb Morris said afterwards, “We got straight on it this weekend and I have to say, I am very impressed with Charles.
“His innate talent to race is excellent, he was battling at the front with the top guys from the outset and so I’ve got very high hopes for our partnership going forward. The GT4 has less aero than the GT3 I’ve been used to, of course, so you have to ‘stop’ the car a lot more for corner entry, whereas in GT3 I would be concentrating more on carrying the speed through.”
