Residents in the Vale of Glamorgan are being “overlooked” by the Welsh Government after it was revealed Labour Ministers have not approved or provided funding for any road schemes in the county since Eluned Morgan became First Minister.
The MS for South Wales Central, which includes the Vale of Glamorgan, Andrew RT Davies, wrote to the Welsh Government’s transport secretary to ask what road building projects had been approved since he took office.
The response from the transport secretary Ken Skates showed that no roads in the Vale had been approved by the Welsh Government, nor given grant funding, since 2024. Road projects across Wales have received over £15,000,000 of Welsh Government funding since 2024.
Davies has long called for a Dinas Powys bypass to ease congestion in the village and the wider Vale, and said the Vale had not been given its “fair share” of roadbuilding cash.
Andrew RT Davies MS, Senedd Member for South Wales Central and former Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, said, “Yet again the Vale of Glamorgan is being overlooked by Senedd Ministers. It’s clear that money is going towards road projects, many of which are undoubtedly long overdue, but Vale residents are not getting their fair share.
“The Dinas Powys bypass is a project that would have significant benefits for residents in Dinas and also the wider Vale. That’s been shelved, and we are in this farcical situation where millions of pounds are being spent on certain roads, while Cardiff and Barry do not have a dedicated road link that can absorb the traffic.
“The Vale has already been overdeveloped, with infrastructure are breaking point, so the least we should expect is a dedicated road between Wales’ capital city and its biggest town that doesn’t take people through small villages and lead to gridlocks.”
