Three car brands continue to dominate the ranking of most popular cars in the UK.
Ford, Vauxhall and Volkswagen account for the top six most popular cars, representing almost a quarter of all enquiries on comparethemarket.com. The Ford Fiesta leads the way with 6.1% of enquiries followed by the Vauxhall Corsa and the Ford Focus with 5.4% and 3.8% respectively.
“The data also shows the stark difference in the cost of motor insurance depending on driver age. While higher prices for younger people are expected because of the increased statistical likelihood of an accident, the difference in cost is dramatic, ” said Dan Hutson, Head of Motor Insurance, comparethemarket.com
Someone under the age of 25 can expect to pay three and a half times – or £865 – more than someone over 65. The cost of car cover then drops dramatically once you are over the age of 25.
For 25 – 34 year olds the cost of insurance is £787 while the cost of insurance for people under 24 is £1,215. This then steadily drops to its lowest average of £349 for drivers over 65.”
