A new Tempcover survey reveals that almost half of UK drivers (49%) feel at least a little nervous before a test drive, with 4% so anxious they’d rather avoid it altogether.
Buying a new car is an exciting milestone, but for many, the test drive can be just as nerve-wracking as it is important. Tempcover, the UK’s temporary car insurance experts, surveyed 500 drivers who have test-driven a car or a van, to explore the hidden anxieties around getting behind the wheel, from damaging the car to fear of collision.
Key Survey Findings:
-
Almost half (49%) of drivers feel at least a little nervous before a test drive, including 4% so anxious they’d rather avoid it altogether.
-
Damaging the car is the top worry for 40% of drivers, followed by not knowing how to use the car’s features (33%) and fear of a collision or accident (28%).
-
Practising the test drive route (35%) and driving alone (30%) are among the top ways drivers say they could reduce nerves.
-
Despite nerves, nearly nine in ten motorists (89%) say a test drive is important in deciding whether to buy a car, including 50% who say it heavily influences their decision.
