Mid Wales racing driver Ben Power has been named a finalist in the World Rallycross Championship’s RX Talent Search programme.
Power, aged 25, from Guilsfield, near Welshpool, is one of 12 who has been shortlisted from an entry of 120, to compete for a place in the RX Lites Cup category at the World RX round in Turkey.
He joins some of the biggest names and hottest talents in British motorsport, including Freddie Hunt, son of ex-world Formula 1 champion, James Hunt; British Touring Car Championship race winner Tom Onslow-Cole; and Formula 2 race winner, Jack Clarke.
“This is a fantastically exciting event to be involved in, and to get to the selection final is a wonderful opportunity. There are some very big names among those 12,” said Power, who is a front-runner in the UK National Legends Car Championship.
“The World Rallycross Championship has become an enormous global series, with massive media interest, so I’m thrilled to have the chance of winning a place on the grid.”
The 12 finalists will each drive an RX Lites machine at Lydden Hill rallycross circuit, Kent, where they will be assessed by a panel of judges.
The RX Lites are specially-made, lightweight off-road racing cars, powered by 2.4litre engines. The winner earns a drive in the RX Lites Cup category at World RX’s Turkish round, which is held at ex-grand prix venue Istanbul Park.
