The organisers of the Pirelli MSA Welsh Forest Rally Championship have announced an innovative new initiative instigated by high performance lubricant manufacturers Ravenol.
The Ravenol Challenge will see points awarded throughout the season to championship contenders based on performance within classes. At the end of the season the top 3 in the challenge will receive prizes of product to the value of £1500, £1000 and £500 respectively
Announcing the initiative, Championship co-ordinator Dave Evison said, “We see this as a significant development for the Championship. The innovative nature of the challenge means that crews throughout the field will be competing for high value end of season prizes. It will also reward our regular competitors who are doing a full championship programme.
That in turn should benefit individual rally organisers by encouraging championship competitors to enter their events.”
Ravenol UK’s Managing Director, Brian Chase, said, “We are a motorsport company at heart. We support the sport from the grass roots right through to the highest levels such as the World Touring Car Championship and I am delighted now to be supporting the national championship of my adopted home country.” He went on to say, “Our philosophy is to actively reduce the costs of motorsport by using the latest lubricant technology to reduce wear rates. This challenge will certainly reduce the costs of motorsport for the winners.”
Meanwhile, Dave Evison said, “To receive the support of such a major motorsport company as Ravenol on the back of Pirelli renewing their title sponsorship is a huge endorsement for the championship.”
The opening round of the Pirelli MSA Welsh Forest Rally Championship is the Weir Engineering Wyedean Rally on 14 February. It’s the 40th running of the event and, with 165 entries received within 10 days of the regulations being published, event organisers are anticipating a capacity field.
