Ahead of the start of the new motor racing season, Formula One racer turned TV pundit Karun Chandhok visited Pembrey Circuit to check out the changes, writes Peter Hughes.
After tackling the revised layout in a Formula Three car, Indian racer Chandhok said, “I have always enjoyed driving here at Pembrey, it’s a real challenge for a driver but this new, more technical section provides an additional test that I am sure will be popular and see more teams and drivers visiting the circuit in the coming years.”
Pembrey is one of the leading testing venues for teams from around the UK and beyond, among them Double R Racing who run young drivers from around the world in various racing categories including Formula Three.
Their Welsh team principal Anthony Hieatt, also welcomed the developments, saying “Pembrey is an ideal proving ground for up and coming young drivers but also offers a real test to experienced racers. These revisions mean Wales has a top class motorsport facility of which it can be truly proud.”
Unveiling the changes to the circuit, Phil Davies added, “The feedback from drivers who have visited the circuit has always been positive but the British Automobile Racing Club is committed to continuous improvement and development of the facilities.
“Some of the changes we have made over the years may not be so obvious and this is certainly the most ambitious development that we have undertaken since we took over the circuit.
“The comments made by Karun and others about the changes are heart-warming and a credit to the staff here who have worked so hard all winter. I look forward to seeing the new layout being used competitively for the first time. These changes are good news not just for the competitors but for spectators as well.”
