Motorists are failing MOTs for a wide range of obscure reasons, according to eBay, the UK’s largest online marketplace for vehicle parts and accessories.
While suspension faults topped the list for overall failures – with broken springs accounting for more than 821,991 unsuccessful MOTs – 394 vehicles were failed for ‘missing’ suspension springs, 20 vehicles failed for having a ‘missing suspension arm’ and 14 for ‘missing’ entire MacPherson struts – all key suspension components.
Dozens of illegal e-bikes and scooters have been seized in a month-long police operation.
Cardiff Council and South Wales Police worked together to target the use of illegal mechanically propelled vehicles (MPVs) throughout August and even stopped one with a potential 80mph top speed and no brakes as a total of 135 were seized by officers in problem areas including Cowbridge Road East in Canton, Albany Road in Roath and Crwys Road in Cathays.

The battery-electric car market share for July 2025 YTD stood at 15.6%, still far from where it needs to be at this point in the transition.
