It was to be celebration time for Elfyn Evans and Craig Parry after the two welshmen won the WRC2 category on the classic Monte Carlo Rally which was the opening round of the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship.
Not even two punctures could stop Evans powering the Fiesta R5 Evo to victory finishing 8th overall, Evans even mixed with the far more powerful WRC cars and even beat many of them on several stages.
More importantly, Evans / Parry took overall victory in the WRC 2 category beating their nearest rival by over two minutes.
The overall rally win went to Sebastian Ogier in a VW Polo R WRC making it 3 Monte Carlo wins for the World Champion, runner up went to Andreas Mikkelsen in another VW Polo R albeit 1min54 secs down while the third car on the podium would be Thierry Neuville in a Hyundai.
Kris Meek was a sad retirement on the penultimate stage of the 3rd day after his gearbox cried enough after hitting a rock the Brit made it to the stage end but it was game over for the Citroen DS3 WRC driver who had been leading the event overall and was the only driver that could challenge Sebastien Ogier in the VW Polo R swapping times regular over the treacherous stages.
