Mitsubishi owners and dealers in the UK have been given a parts and warranty lifeline by Midlands-based International Motors.
International Motors Ltd is in advanced discussions to take over the Mitsubishi Motors UK after-sales business in the autumn, pending the completion of a successful due diligence process which is currently well underway after Mitsubishi announced it will exit the European market later this year.
International Motors, currently the official UK importer for Subaru and Isuzu vehicles, was established in 1976 and has a parts distribution business and IT infrastructure into which the Mitsubishi Motors in the UK after-sales operation could be integrated with relative ease.
For International Motors, the acquisition of the Cirencester-based Mitsubishi Motors in the UK after-sales business would represent an opportunity to grow its parts and accessories operation and to engage with a broader customer base for whom the Subaru and Isuzu ranges should be a perfect fit.
Andrew Edmiston, Managing Director, IM Group, said, “We are widely recognised for our award-winning customer service and we are confident that we will be able to offer the high quality of service Mitsubishi customers are accustomed to.
“We have a longstanding relationship with Mitsubishi Corporation and a good track record of representing Japanese brands in the UK market. This fits perfectly with our long-term strategy to expand our automotive business.”
For Mitsubishi Motors UK the sale would ensure the quality of service it provides to its customers and its dealer network would be maintained well into the future. It will also provide longer term security and opportunities for as many of its staff as possible.
Rob Lindley, Managing Director, Colt Car Company, added,“There is an excellent fit between the Mitsubishi Motors brand and International Motors.
“They, too, are deeply committed to taking great care of their customers and I feel very confident that IM will be an outstanding long-term partner to our Mitsubishi dealers too. Once the due diligence process has been completed, the team at the Colt Car Company will work hard to ensure that the transition is a success, thereby ensuring the best possible outcome for our employees, dealers and customers.”
