Saturday night saw the latest round of the Welsh Road Rally Championship with the Lampeter & District MC run Rali Bro Caron with a capacity entry of 90 cars and a reserve list for the ever popular event, writes Gary Jones.
Car one away would be Kevin Davies and Alan James in a Mk2 Escort cogging up the gears over the hiils of Mynydd Llanybydder, but leading the rally at the halfway petrol halt in Llandovery was Rhodri Evans / Max Freeman also in an Escort with a lead of 56 seconds over the Subaru Impreza of Llanarth driver Andy Davies with Michael Gilbey co- driving, with Davies / James in 3rd another 20 seconds adrift.
However things took a turn for the worse just into the second half for Evans / Freeman when the Escort Mk2 left the road on black ice sending the car into a roll and ultimately the end of the rally for the leading pair.
Back at the finish at the Lampeter RFC with the results final at 6.10am the overall winning crew would be the Subaru of Andy Davies and Michael Gilbey having extended their advantage over Kevin Davies in his Escort to 34 seconds after a tough challenging event. Third overall would go to Simon Summers / Dilwyn John in another Escort a further 17 seconds down on Davies.
