The 2015 Britpart Cross Country Championship gets underway this weekend with the support of new series partner RAVENOL oil and the prospect of perhaps the most competitive season ever for Britain’s premier off-road championship.
The iconic Pikes Peak in Mid Wales will be the venue for the season opener with 2014 champion Mike Moran on hand to begin the defence of his crown. He will be using the same AT 4×4 Challenger that took him to victory last year but the team have been working hard during the closed season to rescue the vehicle’s weight as well as getting more power out of its Jaguar engine.
Second car off will be the Land Rover Tornado of Paul Myers from title sponsors Britpart. He will be followed by the Simbugghini driving by Andy Powel with British Touring Car ace Phil Ibbotson sat alongside him. Another machine to watch out for will be the Isuzu D-Max of the Jewson D-Max Rally Team driven by Jason Sharpe.
Making a welcome return to the Championship, meanwhile, following a break of several years is Neil Davey who will be campaigning the spectacular GSR 206 Evo 8.
In the single make Land Rover Freelander challenge, 2014 champion Ian Linford who will combine defending his title with running a second Freelander for all female crew Louisa Felice and Jess Reynolds. Making his debut in the Freelander debut will be former rally driver Andy Kimble while Andy Price is set to contest the whole season after taking a class win on his one-off debut appearance last year.
The event will get underway at 9am on Saturday running until 5pm before resuming at 10am on Sunday. The finish is scheduled for early Sunday afternoon.
