The main North to South Wales A470 road will be closed for seven weeks at Talerddig, north west of Caersws from the end of the month.
The closure is necessary to rebuild a retaining wall after the carriageway partially collapsed into the Afon Laen and a 70 miles diversion will be put in place on other main roads in Mid-Wales.
The road between Llanbrynmair and Carno was damaged last October and a temporary traffic light system was introduced but after a survey of the road it has been decided only a full closure will allow the road to be fully repaired for safe use by all traffic.
The full closure will be in place until 20 December and then further remedial work will require temporary lights until the middle of February when it’s expected to completely reopen.
The A470 from Cardiff to Llandudno is one of the main roads through Wales and used by cross country bus services, tourist coaches, emergency and delivery vehicles so Welsh Government has advised motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
The diversion will be signposted but it will add about 90 mins to most travelling times and is likely to be very busy in places.
