Tata has finally confirmed its Agratas subsidiary will build a six-million sq foot car battery plant at a cost of £4 Billion near Bridgewater.
The parent company of JLR aims to get it into production inside two years and to eventually build power packs for about 500,000 vehicles annually and provide 4,000 jobs on the lines.
It will take up about half the area previously occupied by a Royal Ordnance Factory and there is speculation that a car maker may locate adjacent to it and assemble electric cars or vans to take the batteries on adjacent land.
The story was first revealed last summer but Tata did not confirm it at the time and it’s thought to have been working on getting UK Government aid to assist but it’s also spent millions of pounds developing its JLR EV range and has been considering how it must invest in Port Talbot Steelworks.
The same site was scopped a few years ago for a new ev-pickup model said to being developed by Rivian.
