Trustees of Castle Combe Racing Trust enlisted to support the Ukrainian Appeal.
In January a motor racing themed initiative was launched by Stuart Rolt, former racing driver, entrant, and owner of the unique Ferguson P99 Climax 4×4 F1 car.
Stuart, supported by his friend Nick Adams (above) from Bath, decided to supply/deliver a 4X4 pick-up truck as part of a convoy to Ukraine where 4X4s are much in demand for medical and military use. This would be Stuart’s third trip.
The Trust quickly agreed to support this worthy cause with a £500 donation to kick-start fund-raising.
A suitable vehicle was swiftly purchased at auction for £5,315 and prepared, with 8 vehicles in total being delivered in two convoys leaving Friday 27 January and by Sunday 29 were just 10 miles from the Ukrainian border.
Monday saw the British party take 3-hours to clear customs and driving to Lviv to start delivering four vehicles before driving for a couple of hours inland to a military outpost to deposit the remaining four vehicles.
A minibus then took weary drivers back to the border before a train to Krakow and flight back to the UK. Mission successfully accomplished!
The initiative organiser said, “A huge thank you for the generosity of those who have so promptly donated to the fundraising which has brought us up to nearly 70% of the £5,000 target.”
