A remanufactured Mercedes-Benz sports car created in Wales is now taking pride of place in the German manufacturer’s leading UK centre.
The hand-built 280SL sports car dates from 1968 and is owned by former racing driver Paul Rees who had it completely stripped, renovated, and rebuilt with a highly polished engine by Hemmels of Cardiff.
The massive project took over 4,000 hours by a team of expert restoration specialists in South Wales and it comes with a 12 months warranty, a full leather interior and light blue paint finish.
The cost of the work is in the region of £285,000 and it’s currently in the foyer of Mercedes-Benz World in Brooklands, where it will stay until April and it then begins a tour of Monaco and Cote d.Azur.
Another Hemmels remanufactured MB will then replace the roadster model, and the importers have indicated they would like to feature more models from the South Wales team because of the quality of their workmanship.
