The Welsh Conservatives have accused Labour’s transport policy of consisting of nothing but delays and empty rhetoric as plans for the Cardiff Parkway station were placed on hold.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Transport, Natasha Asghar MS said, “When the First Minister took the unilateral decision to go against the independent planning inspectorate and cancel the M4 relief road, he promised us better public transport and a plan to alleviate congestion.
“Since then, Labour ministers cancelled all road building projects, rail delays have only worsened, and now important infrastructure projects have been kicked into the long grass.
“When will Labour Ministers learn that Wales needs more than empty rhetoric and vague plans. We need decisive action and public transport infrastructure fit for the 21st century.”
It was announced recently that plans to build the £120m station in the St Mellons area of the city have been put on ice because the Labour Government has called it in – despite the Labour administration owning a 10% stake in the development. It now means Labour ministers will make the final decision on the development.
Earlier this week, it emerged that rail punctuality in Wales is set to be the worst on record since Transport for Wales took over the franchise in 2018.
