Cardiff Fashion Week – the premier fashion event in Wales from 28 October to 4 November – has partnered with Griffin Mill Fiat.
The South Wales Fiat specialist has chosen to support the week to showcase the Fiat 500 range – a bold and seductive car which marks its 60th anniversary this year.
To announce the partnership, Britain’s Next Top Model finalist, 21-year-old sports student Gabriella Jukes from Port Talbot, modelled with the car at Cardiff’s New House Country Hotel. Britain’s Next Top Model launches at 9pm on 19 October on www.lifetimetv.co.uk
Mark Pardoe, managing director for Griffin Mill, said, “The Fiat 500 is a very fashion forward car. It’s modern, quirky in appearance and is loved by the younger market. We think it’s a great fit with the design and creativity of Cardiff Fashion Week.”
The Fiat 500s will be on display at a number of Cardiff Fashion Week’s key events including the catwalk shows and designer village at Cardiff Masonic Hall on Saturday 4 November.
Also, taking part in the day will be a series of emerging and established designers from across Wales including Sunshine Soul – a knitwear brand focused on the young market and Luna Amani, a Cardiff-based accessories’ designer specialising in handbags, which are using the event as a platform to showcase their collections to a wider audience.
A number of academic institutions – including Coleg Sir Gar in Carmarthen, the University of South Wales in Cardiff and Cardiff & Vale College are also backing the event to showcase the talent of their students and graduates.
The University of South Wales in particular will be actively involved in the week demonstrating the work of the university as a hub of fashion design, promotion and retail with a variety of events throughout the week. These include a fashion in film event; a live catwalk show and fashion themed workshops and debates at the University’s Atrium building in central Cardiff. Ty Hafan is the official charity for Cardiff Fashion Week 2016 and there are a number of CFW initiatives supporting the cause. These include a ‘Dolled Up Day’ for businesses across Wales throughout October and a ‘Charity Shop Designer Contest’ where aspiring designers have had the opportunity to customise a bag of charity shop clothes which will be auctioned off at the designer village. | Paula Abbandonato and Wenda James Rowe are directors of Cardiff Fashion Week and Paula said, “Cardiff Fashion Week is a platform to celebrate all that is great about Welsh fashion and design. We’ll see a mix of aspiring designers and established professionals rub shoulders with top fashion academics and retailers.” Wenda James Rowe, added, “We are creating a very inclusive week for everyone who is interested in fashion, beauty and styling. Our aim is to become one of the leading regional fashion weeks in the UK providing Welsh design talent with a unique marketing opportunity on their doorstep.” Tickets to the catwalk shows and designer village will be available at www.visitcfw.co.uk.
