Ear damage is the not so silent danger of enjoying your motorbike, writes Keith Swann.
It’s important to get a pair of plugs which securely fit in your ears and block out the worst noises while letting in important sounds to keep you safe.
I have been testing the Tour and Race plugs from Alpine in their MotoSafe Pro line which cost a whopping £23. You get a stylish protective case for keeping them safe in your jacket pocket which is good, but I thought the fiddly adaptor to insert them was an unnecessary extra which could be omitted to bring down the cost.
Both pairs were comfortable and easy to clean and during my test I was surprised the Tour set let in a lot of road noise so the Race duo were my preferred choice as they blocked out most noise.
They are also remarkably similar to a pair I have worn for a long time and were just £3 on the internet. That’s a big difference but I must say that overall I was impressed and would give the Race pair in particular a rating of 9:10. KS
