Welsh Conservatives have called for clarity over the future of the Circuit of Wales, ahead of today’s deadline for the project’s backers.
The Cabinet Secretary Ken Skates set the Circuit of Wales a deadline of Wednesday 8 February by which to provide assurances that the project’s financial backing was in place, and he is expected to make a statement updating Assembly Members on progress around the scheme.
Speaking ahead of the deadline, Shadow Finance Secretary, Nick Ramsay, said it was time to “move forward, or move on” and he raised the issue during Business Statement yesterday.
Speaking outside the chamber, he said, “It is now two weeks since the Welsh Government gave the Circuit of Wales a two week deadline to prove that its financial backing is in place, and it must now be decision time.
“That ultimatum was a positive step forward for both the Welsh Government and the Circuit, but also for people in the area who have long lived in the shadow of this exciting but seemingly elusive project.
“The Circuit of Wales is an exciting scheme, with huge potential for the regional economy but we now need to move forward, or move on.
“That’s why I’m urging the Cabinet Secretary to make a decisive statement on the future of the project at the earliest opportunity so that all sides know where they stand.”
