Extreme Sports Company has confirmed it will open the world’s largest action centre at the proposed Circuit of Wales site near Ebbw Vale.
While Welsh Government has yet to decide if it will back the Circuit of Wales motor sports complex, Extreme chairman and ceo Alistair Gosling, Chairman and Chief Executive of Extreme, said they have a master-plan in place to introduce their facilities once the go-ahead is given.
“With the growth and interest we are seeing in our sector, it is fantastic to announce this world leading Extreme Destination, combining a never before seen collection of sports, entertainment and leisure experiences,” he said.
Martin Whitaker, CEO of The Circuit of Wales, added, “Our partnership with Extreme underlines the unique range of activities, facilities and services the Circuit’s enterprise cluster will offer Wales and the UK.
“The Circuit aims to provide much more than a racing facility; it will be a 365-day leisure and business destination. The support we have received to date from the racing, automotive and investment communities emphasises the Circuit’s long-term role in boosting tourism, creating jobs and diversifying the local economy”.
Proposed facilities include Mountain Bike Trails, BMX Park, Indoor Ski, Trampolining, Skatepark, Virtual Reality Zone, Surf Park, Live Music Stages and much more, accompanied by two new hotels and a campsite.
Mr Gosling added that the facilities would be phased in and there would be a significant number of permanent jobs as well as seasonal positions created.
The exact size of the Extreme facilities is still in the planning stage and this will reflect the jobs and investment the company is making.
The company also runs the Extreme Sports Channel and with televised live events broadcast around the world, the new Welsh venture will be seen by millions of viewers.
